It’s an historical day.

An virtual unknown, Y.E. Yang of South Korea, came from two strokes behind to overtake Tiger Woods in the final round of the PGA Championship. Yang finished with an -8 under par round, three strokes ahead of Tiger, shooting an 2-under 70 for the sunday round. Originally listed at 110 in the PGA world rankings, this victory would move Y.E. Yang up to the 34th PGA ranking. This would be the first major victory for an asian-born player ever.

It was an “unbelievable” day out on Sunday in Hazeltine, Minnesota where the PGA championship was played. Y.E Yang, paired with the Tiger himself, did something that Mr. Woods usually does to others — sweep the championship from right out under. It was an year of such upsets, with disbelieving writers, viewers, and the players themselves. In the Masters, Cabrera literally stole the championship from Kenny Perry, who had a two shot lead with two to play. At the Open, Lucas Glover handled Phil Mickelson out of his U.S. Open win. And Tom Watson, at 59, was about to make history at the British… until Stewart Cink came in to sink his dreams.

And now, Y.E. Yang of South Korea, who started Golf at 19, entered the military for two years, and six years later, was Korea’s Rookie PGA of the year, has overtaken Tiger Woods once again on the major stage at the Pga Championship. Previously, he held off Tiger at the HSBC tournament, and won only once on the PGA tour at the Honda Classic earlier in the year.

Now. Yang is a major champion in the eyes of the world. Even the president of South Korea phoned in to congratulate Y.E Yang on his victory.

Y.E. and Tiger was head to head until the 14th hole, where Yang made the shot of the day for an chip-in eagle on the short par 4. He would take the lead, and never relinquish it.

On the 18th, was one of the most clutch shots the Golfing world has seen since Corey Pavin at Shinnecock. From over 210 yards out, Yang hits an 3 hybrid over a tree, without view of the green, to land it right next to the flag stick, rolling 8 yards out. He would eventually make that putt for a birdie, and close out all doors on Tiger.

In an interview, Yang is quoted, “You never know in life. This may be my last victory as a golfer, but it sure was a great day”.

Y.E. Yang’s victory is already making waves across Asia, and hopes to be compared to Se Ri Pak’s win at the LPGA major, which spouted 11 major victories from 7 Korean PGA players.

Tiger congratulated Y.E. Yang on his playing and called his ball striking “great”.

That is what I saw at a local golf store, a few months ago. What is it about this driver that makes it almost $500.00 dollars? More to the point does it really matter? I mean can you actually hit $500.00 worth of driver with that piece of equipment? Well, I guess that’s relative to the person. I can say, the reason why that driver is that much money are endorsements, marketing and R&D (R and D is such a distance third it’s not even funny). The irony about the endorsement part is the players they are endorsing are not paying $479.00 dollars for that driver.

All golf clubs have the same basic characteristics – 1. Clubhead 2. Hosel 3. Shaft 4. Grip – that’s pretty much it. Now, there are obviously innovations that set one club apart from another, like different materials and weighting blah blah blah, but with the USGA basically telling all club manufacturers you have to conform to our rules and our rules limit how much distance a club can create, why would you pay $479.00 for a driver you know is not going to hit any farther than any other USGA conforming driver? Two reasons. 1. It is hard to find a combination of looks and feel in a club that you will like. 2. Marketing Marketing Marketing. And reason two is much more a cause than reason one.

There is another question I’d like answered, why do pro’s not play with clubs right off the rack? If the $1200 iron sets are that good, why aren’t pro’s just grabbing a set and playing with them? Why do they have to have them re-adjusted to their swings and closed 2 degrees and opened 1 degree and why do these huge manufacturers have to have semi-trucks (mobile club adjustment facilities) come and adjust a pro’s clubs on the fly? I mean a pro will go the range and hit with clubs and go back and say, I need the ball flight lowered or I need this or that and the club maker will do that for him right there on the spot. Don’t get me wrong club adjustment and having a club fit to your game is important, but for $1000-$1200, that club should hit for me!

From the clubs that I have hit with, and I have hit with everything from Taylormade, to Nike, to Callaway, to Nickent (I have never hit with a Cleveland though…don’t know why) I can say that there are differences in feel, as I mentioned earlier but not much else. I can also say, I have gotten the same feel from Dynacraft and Powerplay drivers that I have gotten from Taylormade but only if I do two things. I have to change the grip and shaft of the Dynacraft and Powerplay. I have to upgrade the components. When I do that, believe me when I say this, I have an excellent looking club that can launch the ball perfectly. Both feel and look great. With the Powerplay I use the Fujikura Saishan and with the Dynacraft I use the Aldila VX Series shafts. The grips are usually Karakal, but Golfpride or Winn grips are fine as long as they are soft. When I do that, I have an amazing product for under $160.00 because I already know the technology is there and they are USGA conforming. So, I know, the Nike and Taylormade are not going to hit it any farther because they cannot. The USGA capped distances!

So, if you want to pay that much money for a stock driver, then you may do so, but I can almost guarantee they will not out perform anything that is made from a smaller Amercian club manufacturer who is not cloning – And I do not carry any clones or deal the manufacturers that do. All of the manufacturers that we use have had products evaluated by some kind of independent source…i.e. Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, GolfTips Magazine…etc and every one of the manufacturers has at least one line of clubs that has been mentioned as a, “best buy” or “Great Value”.

http://www.sj-golf.com

By the way, I went back to that same store and that $479.00 driver is now $199.00. Which makes one wonder…what would make someone drop the price of a driver worth $479.00 more than $250.00? Makes you wonder how much it’s really worth, doesn’t it?

Used by golf greats like Annika Sorenstam, Arnold Palmer and Steve Ballesteros, Callaway golf clubs combine the rare blend of fun, fearlessness and forgiveness in the game. How is this possible? Well, every golf club made by Callaway has a forgiving nature even in the hands of novice, and, hence, allowing for fearlessness in every shot as well as injecting fun into every game of golf. Now, if that isn’t sufficient motivation to purchase the highly popular Big Bertha, then we don’t what is.

Product Range

As can be expected from a company that caters to amateur and pro golfers alike, the variety of products available is sufficient to outfit them from head to toe, plus a few other things besides. Thus, your favorite Callaway golf clubs are complemented by golf apparel, balls, GPS and other accessories like watches, stand and car bags, gloves and headgear, to name a few.

However, the star of the show remains to be the golf clubs. Under this category, you can choose from drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters, complete sets for the young golfer, Tour Authentic and a Lefty’s Corner. These golf clubs are a testament to Callaway’s commitment to cater to every golfer, from the novice to the master, from the young set to the older set, from the right-handed to the lefties.

Arguably, the star amongst all the available Callaway clubs is the Big Bertha. It is considered to be the most stable and the most forgiving golf club in the line, with constant innovations that have served it well through the years since its introduction as a revolutionary golf club in 1991.

Product Features

The golf clubs of Callaway all follow a distinct philosophy of combining golf artistry with the latest in technology and in knowledge. Specifically, you can expect your golf club to contain one or more of the following technologies:

• Hyperbolic face technology to produce a bigger effective hitting area
• VFT technology to maximize ball speed through adjustments in face thickness
• S2H2 and modified Tru-Bore technology improves the feel and control of the golf club
• Extreme notch weighing for greater stability and forgiveness
• 360-degree undercut channel that enlarges the hitting area and stabilizes the golf club

You may not understand the technology behind the innovation but you can definitely experience the difference with Callaway clubs. After all, Callaway stands behind its golf clubs, in more ways than one.

Product Innovations

Of course, Callaway will not be a leader in the golf industry was it not for the innovations adopted and the technologies discovered. In addition to the above mentioned innovations in the golf clubs, there is also the use of modern materials like carbon composite and tunite alloy as well as HEX dynamics and dual core technology for the golf balls.

With constant innovation in golf technology, it is no surprise then that professional and amateur golfers across the world continue to be converted to the fun, forgiving and fearless appeal that are Callaway golf clubs. Indeed, what more can anybody ask for in a game?

The Course

Designed by D.A. Weibring, this 7,300 yard, 18 hole course winds through 236 acres of varied landscape that includes manicured fairways, wooded borders, elevation variations, and water hazards provided by a 20-acre lake. It can be enjoyed by average and skilled golfers alike, although beginners should take advantage of the white tees to make the most of their game. There is a reason why Gentle Creek was voted #13 of all 1,100 courses in the state of Texas.

Gentle Creek is especially known for the 9th hole. It may only be a par 3, but you’ll remember shooting over the large pond, waterfall and rock wall to get to the green. There are eight sets of tees for this one.

Another challenging par 3 faces you on the 15th hole. At 139 yards, you’ll be fighting for every one of them. Start by shooting over a huge pond, but don’t go too far or you’ll end up in the sand bunker directly behind the green. Add to this a fairway bordered with Pecan trees that creates a sort of wind tunnel, and make club selection extra important. Don’t fret, the green is larger than most and will allow for some inaccuracy to the right or left.

The stately clubhouse features Lakeside Grill restaurant with covered terrace, full service pro shop, fitness room, men’s and ladies’ locker rooms, card room and steam room. Practice facility includes putting green, bunkered chipping green and over one acre of grass practice tees.

Gentle Creek is a members course and offers different levels of membership:

Full Membership: Includes green fees, locker, shoe care, club storage and cleaning, range balls and handicap service. Club facilities can be utilized by members, their spouse and children under the age of 23, or single, full time students still living at home.

Corporate Membership: Same privileges as Full Membership for designated corporate employees.

Senior Membership: Same privileges at Full Membership for individuals aged 65 and over, with some restricted tee times.

Non-Resident Membership: For those residing outside of a 100 mile radius of the club and any county bordering Collin County. They receive the same benefits as the Full Membership, but are limited to 4 tee times per month.

Homes at Gentle Creek

Gentle Creek Estates: This golf community is set on 630 acres of scenic Prosper countryside. Homesites are a generous 1 acre or larger in sizes with home styles ranging from patio style to custom estates surrounding the course. Custom homes range in price from $300’s to $1.5 million. In light of our current economic times, prices are down in Gentle Creek and it’s never been a better time to buy a place.

Vistas of Gentle Creek offers homes priced from $229,900 to $369,900. Sizes range from 2,103 square feet up to over 4,000 square feet, with 1 or 2 story plans. Standard features of many of the homes include granite countertops, brick front porch, security system, gas fireplace with granite surround, ash, hand-stained kitchen cabinets, granite foyer, ceramic tile flooring in kitchen, utility and baths, high efficiency 13 SEER air conditioning, mahogany front door with beveled glass, crown molding in foyer, living room and dining room, wrought iron stair balusters, full sod and sprinkler systems.

Quality builders in Gentle Creek include Alford Homes, Grand Homes, Perrin Homes, Darling Homes and Dave R. Williams Homes. Make sure you contact them directly to find out about any builders promotions being offered. For instance, Grand Homes has over $50,000 off of select homes, and includes free swimming pool in some homes.

A future phase is being planned along the 18th fairway with many homes boasting lovely views of the lake and golf course. Gentle Creek is run by the Gentle Creek Homeowners Association that manages repairs, maintenance and social activities in the neighborhood.

Homeowners have the option of joining the golf club, as well as sharing an Olympic-size pool, and amenity center.

Gentle Creek is located north of Fisco at 3131 E. Prosper Trail, Prosper – near Preston Rd. and SH380.

Do you travel frequently with your golf clubs? What is your budget for a golf travel bag? Do your golf trips mostly include air travel or auto travel? While looking to find the correct golf travel bag for yourself, you should be asking yourself these types of questions before you go on your next golf trip or golf vacation.

A soft golf travel bag is typically made of a canvas type material and padded on the inside and they have a hard bottom to protect your golf bag. These type of bags have wheels to help golfers transport their gear from location to location.

Advantages to these bags include that you can also carry other golf gear. Many bags, such as the Club Glove travel bags, have pockets within the bag that you can pack shoes, clothes or other golf accessories. In addition, a Club Glove or a similar travel bag will break down for easy storage in your hotel room or at home while you are waiting to go on your next golf trip.

Some people do not think that these bags give you as much protection for the club heads as a hard case. In my experience, I have not found this to be true. I take my golf towel an weave it throughout the shafts to give some extra protection along with the padding. Again, I have never had a problem with a golf shaft breaking while on a golf trip. If you are not comfortable with this, then you can purchase a “stiff arm” accessory.

A hard case is as it sounds. It is a case that you place your golf bag and golf clubs into for their security and provides the highest amount of protection. Typically, with a hard case, you will not have extra space to pack clothes or golf accessories.

Since a hard case provides the most protection for your golf clubs, hard cases are a smart choice for the golfer who flies to the majority of your golf vacation spots. Often, airlines will cover any damage incurred when your clubs are in a hard golf case.

When it comes to storage at home or on the road, hard cases take up more room than other styles. The bulk of a hard golf case also makes it difficult to fit into the trunk of many rental cars. Hard golf cases might not make as much sense as hybrids or soft-covers if you do not fly to many of your golf vacations.

Have you ever felt a bit apprehensive when you threw your clubs into your trunk and wondered if the bag was enough to keep them secure during the journey? After all, your golf bag and clubs can suffer plenty stresses and movement during a drive. A lot depends on the terrain, but even a bit of sharp braking can cause a bit of damage.

Golf travel bags can be the answer to this. Golf travel bags are designed to protect your golf clubs and the rest of your golfing equipment during transit. With the right golf travel bag, there should be no chance of your clubs getting damaged in your trunk.

Golf Travel Bags Protect Against the Baggage Handlers

What about the airport? Do you travel the circuits? Or do you take your clubs with on vacation? Whichever, you probably rely on airport baggage handlers to be gentle with your golf bag. Think on! Do you really think baggage handlers are going to give golf clubs any more consideration than any other piece of luggage?

What you need is a golf travel bag. Golf travel bags provide all the protection you need while traveling. The type of travel bag you purchase depends upon the type and amount of travel you do, but you can be sure that golfer who do not protect their clubs with a golf travel bag while driving or flying are asking for problems.

Secure Your Clubs

Some golf bags are specially designed to hold your clubs secure in the bag during normal use, and these will at least provide some degree of protection when traveling in that the clubs will not move around as much as those held loosely in an ordinary golf bag. However, most golfers do not have this option, and rely either on themselves driving carefully, on baggage handlers being gentle (?) or aircraft hold baggage not moving much during the flight. Would you feel happy relying on any one of these, especially if your clubs cost a few hundred, or even a few thousand, dollars?

Don’t Travel Without Your Golf Travel Bag

If you travel, you definitely need to consider using golf travel bags. There are a number of designs available, though the main tones are soft cover, hard cover or a combination of these. The hard shell golf travel bags cost more, but provide the highest degree of protection. Although the soft cover golf travel bags do not offer total protection, they cost less and can be used as regular carry bags during the round. Your golf bag can therefore also be your travel bag.

If you play golf regularly and travel frequently, either between courses on the golf circuit or simply to avoid the familiarity of playing the4 same courses time, you should consider purchasing one of the golf travel bags which is most relevant to your needs. Not only will it [protect your equipment, but will give you peace of mind while traveling.

It is indeed a surprising turn of events when Malaysia entered the big business of golf courses and delivered its own brand of highly feasible, highly attractive golf courses in Kuala Lumpur. So, get on with an experience of the Asian brand of golf culture in this listing of golf courses in Kuala Lumpur.

Saujana Golf & Country Club

www.saujana.com.my

Since its opening in 1986, Saujana Golf & Country Club has hosted several distinguished events: three events of Kosaido Malaysian Ladies Open, two separate events Eisenhower Trophy and the Espirito Santo Trophy for the 2002 World Amateur Golf Team Championships. It was also the venue for the $910,000 Carlsberg Malaysia Open Golf Championship of 2001.

It is because Saujana Golf & Country Club possesses two spectacular golf courses The Palm and the Bunga Raya that it got so much accolade by golf critics, including the Asian Golf Monthly 2005 The Best Championship Course in Asia for Palm Course and the 69th spot on the Top 100 Best Courses outside the USA for the Bunga Raya Course by Golf Digest 2005 Survey.

Bukit Jambul Golf & Country Resort

Undulating terrain and fresh greenery provides plenty of aesthetics for the Bukit Jambul Golf & Country Resort, but yet no one can ignore the challenges that are subtlety expressed by the scenic beauty of the place. It even has fruit trees that can be enjoyed by the golfers, an interesting bonus that only adds to its deserving ranking among the best golf courses in Kuala Lumpur. Even the opening hole can be rightfully bear the index rating of one.

Bukit Unggul Country Club

Golf courses are also nature walks, benefiting mind and body. While most golf course do take you to nature, Bukit Unggul Country Club takes you one step closer still. Because this course is one fine example of how a golf course can be carve out of nature’s bosom without really changing anything. The effect? Challenges in their most natural and accepted setting. Waterfalls, natural elevated greens, copses of trees, just naturally perfect.
Glenmarie Golf & Country Club

The Glenmarie Golf & Country Club’s approach for the TPC at Sawgrass the “Island Green” or the 17th hole may be more accepted than TPC’s but that’s not what made the Glenmarie spectacular. A water course, the Glenmarie features plenty of water hazards and water carries remeinscient to the 17th hole. Glenmarie is also vast, plus coupled with those water traps it can definitely pose real challenges even to veteran golfers.
